With my cold fading and my old friend Suwandi being the best host I could possibly hope for, we both made our way to the airport for our flight from Medan to Jakarta, and then from Jakarta to Bali. The good thing about Suwandi’s amazing help is that I didn’t have to worry about anything. It seemed as if he had taken care of everything for me. Our time in Medan was planned out, and I was shown around without even cracking open my guidebook. That same intricate planning in Bali meant I could take a break after three months of constant traveling, planning out every stage of my day and instead relax, relying on my friend’s careful planning. It also meant I could take a deep breath, let out some stress, and enjoy my time. No worrying about where to sleep, where to eat, what to see. Suwandi had been to Bali before too, which meant any question I had was answered.
So with that, we were off to explore Bali.
After two days together, Suwandi flew back home to Medan, leaving me to whittle my days along the beach, watching the waves ply in and enjoying a book or two. Each evening was capped by the biggest show in Kuta – the sunset. Thousands flocked to the beach around 6:00PM each day to witness the sun melt down into the horizon, turning the sky different shades of yellow, orange, and purple. A beer on the beach with a silent audience of thousands facing the stage is perhaps one of the best ways to end a day.
A few days later I met Natasha, a Russian who was traveling to Bali and Lombok for a few weeks. Together we explored a few sights, including another trip to Tanah Lot and Uluwatu. This time there was a bit more playfulness in the air as pictures were snapped.
Reading on the beach, catching nightly sunsets, exploring magical temples, taking in rice fields stretching across the landscape, and scuba diving. Not a bad way to spend a few weeks in Bali.

Love these Bali pictures Brian! Keep up the great work. Have you decided on any special birthday plans yet? Which of your many new friends will you get to spend the day with? P.S. Was that “Tiger” shirt a shout out to ENP? 🙂

Kristy – my birthday plans will be hiking up a volcano in Java (Gunung Bromo), and scuba diving in Bunaken. So I guess I will get to spend my birthday with my friends the fishes and turtles and seahorses.
The Tiger shirt is actually a beer shirt! Tiger Beer is a brand of beer in Singapore. Coincidentally, I am ringing in the New Year in Singapore.
