I arrived in Aswan around 10:00 in the morning after a night train from Cairo. After checking into the hotel, I headed out to the market, perusing shops and looking at the different wares for sale.
Later that evening we boarded a felucca for a few hours and sailed the West bank of the Nile. The setting sun and the water lapping against the boat made for a tranquil experience.
There were plenty of sites to look at along both banks of the shore.
It was a great time to relax, chat with new friends, and enjoy the picturesque scene of the Nile at sunset.
We eventually made our way to a small Nubian village. After docking all 8 of us loaded onto the back of a small Toyota pickup truck, as two Nubian males stood on the back bumper and a small boy and girl rode on the top of the truck. We wound our way from the river up to the village and eventually to a family’s house. Once there we were treated to a home-cooked Nubian meal. We took off our shoes, seated ourselves on cushions, and enjoyed a nice meal in an the open courtyard of the house as a full moon shone above.
After a wonderful meal and nice conversation we made our way on truck back to the felucca and then on the felucca back to our hotel.
It was a great way to start our visit in Aswan.

Do they really ride on the top of the truck? That’s crazy! And they also ride on the bumpers?

Everybody packs in so they can all get there! It’s the same in Cairo and in Petra, Jordan.

Brian –
Somehow I lost connection with your posts and feel like I’ve missed so much. As I make my way through the posts of the previous month, I am mesmerized by your photography even more than the text. Awesome job taking your already awesome skill and escalating it multi-fold. I am jealous!

Hey Tej – it’s great to hear from you after a little hiatus. I thought you had gone incognito on me. Glad to see you are catching up on the site. Thanks regarding the photos – I am having fun experimenting when I go out each day and it has been really fun – hopefully I can pick up some tips from even better travel photographers I have been meeting along the way.
