A “must-do” of mine while travelling is to try some crazy food at each place I am at. In Egypt, my two culinary choices were camel meat and stuffed pigeon. The camel meat was roasted and then poured over a bed of rice. It tasted like roast beef that had been simmering in a crockpot all day. OK, but a little chewy. Pretty much just like roast beef.
The pigeon was stuffed with couscous. First the head and feet are cut off, then the pigeon is roasted, and then stuffed with the couscous. You are technically supposed to eat it just like a sandwich. Bones and all. The bones are so tiny that you can just chew them up and swallow them. Well, I had full intentions of doing this when I started. That quickly changed, though. The pigeon, what little meat was actually on it, tasted like the dark meat in a turkey. I started in on this little birdy but only managed to eat about 3/4 of the fowl.
I tried. You have to give me credit for that.
One semi-tasty pigeon was harmed in the making of this story.

haha on the pigeon; bones and all. I don’t like it when i find anything in my meat (grissel) ucky. I am glad you tried it though. I brought elk and buffalo jerky when out in colorado to try. I told we can’t open it til Kylea is with us cause she likes jerky. I do like elk meat and bear meat.

Yeah, I just can’t distinguish the camel from the beef. They taste exactly the same. The pigeon is a nice try!

I know – sometimes you have to be a bit adventurous, right Lisa?! I think we chose a good time to visit Egypt – since no crowds meant stunning temples all to ourselves.
