Kuta, Bali is a popular tourist destination and a sun worshiping backpacker’s mecca. With a wide, sweeping stretch of beach, terrific sunsets, great surfing, and cheap accommodations, the area beckons to all backpackers seeking some sun at one point or another in their travels. There are two streets by the beach commonly known as the backpacker streets. Lined with street vendors, laundry services, cheap restaurants, and plentiful guesthouses, Poppies 1 and Poppies 2 are the streets backpackers flock to. Poppies 1 is known as the quieter street while Poppies 2 is known more as the party street. I chose Poppies 1, and have stayed at both Kedin’s 1 Inn and Kedin’s 2 Inn. Kedin’s 2 is a bit smaller, a bit cheaper, but tucked a little farther away from the beach, in between Poppies 1 and Poppies 2. Kedin’s 1, right on the main strip of Poppies 1 and two minutes from the beach, is where I chose to lay my backpack, so to speak, for about ten days. A fan room (no air conditioning), cold water shower, and beautiful balcony overlooking the pool will run you $15 USD. For $25 USD you get an air-con room, hot water shower, a large and spacious room, but no balcony. Either way, you get very much for very little price.
Oh yeah, and if you are too lazy to walk two minutes to get to the beach, then here is the pool in the terrace garden at Kedin’s 1 Inn.
