The island of Gili Trawangan, east of Bali, is a great haven for turtles. Gili Trawangan proactively nurtures and protects baby turtles, then releases them once they have grown to adult size. The island contains a turtle sanctuary right on the beach, harboring the babies in three large open aquariums. Visitors are encouraged to enter, look, and learn about the process for saving the turtles.
Here the turtles are placed together into a tub while the aquarium is being cleaned.
When I first saw this, I thought it was turtle soup, but after reading it appears they are doing a bit more to protect them than that….
Yeah, turtle soup would have been depressing…
