Weather-wise, today was perhaps the most beautiful day since I have arrived in Thailand. Clear blue skies, hot but not melting temperatures, and a cool breeze easily tempted me to go out for a walk around the Old City of Chiang Mai. Wat Chedi Luang, my favorite temple in Chiang Mai, beckoned. The chedi is said to have been constructed around the year 1441. There are conflicting reports regarding the partial destruction of the chedi.
The serpents and elephants in the panorama were part of a reconstruction project. All four sides of the chedi used to have serpents and elephants adorning them. Only one side still retains the originals.
