Bagan was hot. Seriously, awfully hot. Jess and I rented bicycles and explored the countless number of temples over the span of 4 days. Day one, however, got off to an inauspicious start. We started at midday (mistake #1), biked from our hotel to one of the most popular temples (about 40 minutes – mistake #2), and thought we could handle it (mistake #3). We immediately took respite in a temple, following the locals and escaping the heat by having a break inside the somewhat cooler temples. Did I mention the buddhas in these temples were enormous? I like how this image captures the sheen of sweat and exhausted look on Jess’s face contrasted with the golden buddha and the local praying in front of it.
